Grunion News: Holocaust remembrance ceremony in Long Beach

The deaths of the six million Jewish people who perished during World War II will be marked with a Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) ceremony starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at the Alpert Jewish Community Center.

Yom HaShoah is actually April 28, but the Long Beach observance will be on May 1.

The event will include music, a traditional memorial service, commemorative candle lighting and more. Keynote speaker Harriet Bennish will present Yiddish music that sustained the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe during the rise of World War II.

Admission is free and RSVPs may be made at alpertjcc.org/yomhashoah. The ceremony also will be streamed at facebook.com/AlpertJCC.
